Survey & Structural Audit

Civil Engineering Industry is one of the oldest industries which provide a basic infrastructure to all the human beings. Structures can be of any kind like Historical, Heritage Structure, Residential Building, Commercial Building or an Industrial Building. Every structure has its own service life, and within this service life it should stand firmly on its position. But this not a condition about the today’s structures. A collapsed mechanism has increased and today’s structures are getting collapsed before there service life is completed. Therefore, it is advisable to monitor it periodically by taking a professional opinion. Structural Audit is a preliminary technical survey of a building to assess its general health as a civil engineering structure. It is usually initiated as the first step for repair.
This extent of damage or deterioration greatly depends on the quality of work at the construction stage. The deterioration of buildings can be a result of various factors including fire damage, incline weather effects, low grade quality materials, corrosion of steel etc. during the life span of the structure. The investigation of soundness is thus essential for finding the present serviceability of the structure and its scope for future developments or for the change in its utilization.

HOW WE WORKS

Structural Audit Tests

We do the following Tests for Structural Audit of the building to evaluate its strength. This helps us get the complete report with the Cost of Repairs to commence the Repair Work to improve its appropriateness, safety & efficiency.

THERMAL IMAGING CAMERA TEST

Thermal Camera can detect leaks and other water damages but measuring temperature of a selected area. The moisture detection feature locates water behind walls, covered with paint or hidden by panel. The moisture shows up as colder that the surroundings area in normal conditions.

ULTRA PULSE VELOCITY TEST

To check the homogeneity of concrete, check the presence of cracks, voids or any other sort of deformities. This test is conducted by passing a pulse of ultrasonic wave through concrete to be tested and measuring the time taken by pulse to get through the structure.

REBOUND HAMMER TEST

The Rebound Hammer Test will hit the concrete at a defined energy. Its rebound is dependent on the hardness of the concrete and is measured by the test equipment. By reference to the conversion chart, the rebound value can be used to determine the compressive strength.

CORE CUTTING TEST

Assessment of actual/ residual strength of core concrete, study of materials used in the concrete mix. This test method provides standardized procedures for obtaining and testing specimens to determine the compressive strength of in place concrete as per the standards of IS: 456.

STEEL LOCATOR TEST

This test will show the location of the steel for core cutting and to see if there has been any tampering. It scans through solid concrete and pinpoints the location and depth of target.

CEMENT AGGREGRATE RATIO TEST

The ratio of aggregate to sand to cement is an important factor in determining the compressive strength of the concrete mixture. A concrete mixture ratio of 1 part cement, 3 parts sand and 3 parts aggregate will produce a concrete mix of approximately 3000 psi. The calculations are based on the soluble Silica and Lime contents and the leaner of the two mixes is taken for the results.

CHEMICAL ANALYSIS

Determination of the PH value, chloride sulphide contents in the concrete. A higher Ph value or a higher content of chloride or SO3 than permitted by Indian standard codes show the presence of an environment where corrosion of reinforcement has much higher probability than normal.

HALF CELL POTENTIAL & CARBONATION

To assess the probability of corrosion in concrete. To conduct an HCP test a hole is drilled in the concrete to reach reinforcement and an electric current is established. On placing the Half cell at various points on the concrete, the voltage is measured and then correlated as per ASTM standard.

COVER METER

Cover Meter is a device used to determine the precise concrete cover depth and to pinpoint the exact location of the rebars in the concrete. The cover depth of the concrete has a major impact on those processes that lead to corrosion of the rebars.
